Scholarship Fund for Home Care Workers Established at SCS in Memory of Glee Kleinberg

A memorial scholarship fund to help further the education of home care workers has been established at Sunnyside Community Services in memory of Glee Kleinberg, who died recently after a brief illness.

Glee came to work at Sunnyside Community Services in the early 1970’s with a sense of mission, according to Judy Zangwill, SCS’s executive director.  “She was passionate about the importance of geriatric care in the community, and about how critical it was to keep local seniors in their own homes for as long as possible.  Her creativity and management skills enabled her to build a small community home care program into a licensed home care agency that provides 52,000 hours of home care each week.”

When Glee retired from SCS in 2003 to found ElderStrategies (a geriatric consultation service), the Board of Directors dedicated the entire home care suite in her honor.  That same year, she received an Outstanding Citizen citation from the New York State Assembly and the New York City Council.  Glee was instrumental in developing diverse service options for seniors, and she continued to write and consult on various issues concerning the aging population.  Since 2006, Glee had served on the faculty of New York University’s College of Nursing.

In memory of Glee’s dedication to developing and promoting high quality systems of care, at her family’s request Sunnyside Community Services has established the Glee Kleinberg Scholarship Fund for Home Care Workers.  Contributions to the Fund may be made by sending a check to Sunnyside Community Services at 43-31 39th Street, Sunnyside, New York, 11104, or by using the secure online donation option at the SCS website at www.scsny.org.  For more information about the Glee Kleinberg Scholarship Fund contact Judith Zangwill at (718) 784-6173, extension 405.
