English for Speakers of Other Languages

At SCS, we provide English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) education for adult English language learners (ELLs), emphasizing improved literacy through tailored educational frameworks.

We offer in-person classes fostering participatory learning. The ESOL program follows a communicative and student-centered approach, using thematic instruction to enhance speaking, listening, reading, writing, vocabulary, pronunciation, and grammar skills. We empower adult ELLs to gain confidence in using English effectively. We updated our curriculum in 2021 to reflect a more effective hybrid model of learning.

Through practice-based learning, students engage in role-playing, games, teamwork, small-group activities, class discussions, and diverse project-based assignments. ESOL classes are offered in-person Monday through Thursday. Contact us to learn about the next session.

We equip students with vital English language skills and experiences to help them:

  • Navigate family health services and educational opportunities for themselves and their children
  • Enhance basic financial literacy
  • Access and utilize technology effectively
  • Prepare for finding, securing, and retaining employment
  • Acquire familiarity with American life and culture

Student support services include advisement, free tutoring, and help with accessing other public benefits, social services, or other forms of relief.

Funding for our ESOL program is provided by the Department of Youth and Community Development and the New York State Education Department.
